5. What does “[U]” in the case description on the results page indicate about the court decisions?

A [U] in the case name indicates that court decisions are unpublished. While unpublished court decisions are not precedential and may not be cited in court, they are useful for research in finding relevant case law, whether at the state, federal, or US Supreme Court level. Additionally, when unpublished court decisions are selected from the results page, VersusLaw provides a yellow watermark in the left margin indicating the opinion is unpublished.

Other document color-coding you will find on our site are: blue for regulatory provisions and green for statutory provisions.
